I smell the defeat of Orange Caligula coming closer every day.
Today's best news: one of my friends from college drove from New Jersey through Pennsylvania and Ohio, to Indiana..... without seeing any signs for the Putrid Orange Ghastly, no cultists wearing MAGAt hats at rest stops, no billboards, nada about the Orange Horror.
RFK, Jr. is as addled as a rotten egg, and is indeed upholding the Orange Traitor, presumably in a quid pro quo deal to get a job in the Traitor's administration, Heavens Forfend......
your strong, heartfelt, emotional, steely words....such a talented writer you are. i think i have been crying since 2016...sadness, fear, apathy, futility. and on this read...tears still. except something has changed. the tears are of joy, hope, cleansing and comfort. no sitting around hoping now. doing something. thank you for posting this masterful piece, stacey.
Tears were the ONLY sane response to what was going on. But I truly see light at the end of this very dark tunnel. And no one has ever accused me of being an optimist ;-)
It's almost eerie, the synchronicity of our brains, dearest friend. Hey, for anyone reading down this thread, type in: RICHARD HESTER POSTS FROM THE UPPER WEST SIDE. He has an EXCELLENT Substack.
Yes, I'm feeling the same sense of having him gone and also enjoying the mainstream media having to learn how to be journalists again. One can hope and vote. BTW - photo credit to me for the troll & pussyhat combo! :-)
NO! Is that you???? A friend in San Antonio sent it to me! Holy cow. If that isn’t a small world, I don’t know what is. Well, how would you like your name to read in the photo credit?
Yes. I first posted it on FB from Key West visting a friend there for xmas. Emailing you that instance for the record with photo. Just the name, thanks! ;-)
Trump being a supremely bad man, yes, but a symptom of sickness in the American body politic, not a cause. Once he's gone, it will be as though we stepped out of a fart filled room into fresh Umbrian air, but back "in there", the stink lingers.
The swirl of global forces that impinge upon humanity, not just Americans, especially those that are the result of human-made climate change, is gathering so relentlessly and so quickly that they cannot be successfully confronted by a single hegemonic power, whose self-interest is so profound that it undermines the ameliorative efforts of everyone else.
Why's that?
Because those who "have game" in US politics, can only exercise it if they maintain a craven obeisance to a plethora of monied interests, including the military industrial complex, the hyper-capitalists that control every other important sector of the economy, and those foreign governments who need American support to keep their boot on the necks of their own people, or who, or otherwise engage in conflicts that serve American interests, or, as in the case of Israel, are fervently executing a genocide on the Palestinians.
Kamala and Tim have game, like Clinton and Obama had game. Not like Jimmy Carter, who, alas, had a self-destructive "shred of decency". But even "a shred of decency" won't put things right, not when the levers of power are in the hands of those who, in the game of US politics, have got the kind of game that big money likes.
By the bye, none of those 62 lawsuits were actually about "election fraud" per se. To make such an accusation in a court w/o significant evidence to back it up is a serious federal crime. The one lawsuit that they didn't lose was about a technicality related to the vote count in one locality. When they recounted the votes, Trump's loss was even greater.
It remains to be seen if he will actually debate Harris this September, he was unleashing some performative sniveling yesterday. I have to wonder which would be worse for him, getting flayed alive by Harris on the debate stage or running away like a whimpering little baby?
Yeah, all of the sudden, the Trump camp likes the "mic off" option, even as Jabba says he'd prefer "mic on." Biden was always to much of the old-school gentleman to effectively defend himself against Trump's stream-of-consciousness dada-ist spew. Harris, though, with her years in the courtroom, is more like an Octagon brawler. This is Thunderdome, and she's the only one that comes out alive. Trump's people know this and they're all, "For the love of God, Montressor! Don't let him speak!"
Excellent read - and astute opinion from your reader Vian above - what to do? How to change, implement sustainable change that benefits all, (our planet Earth) that balances the field, that raises the game inclusively? I’m not sure we humans are capable of such collectively, (the power/greed of individuals/institutions too locked in) but perhaps hope is that one day such is possible - and thus we strive, we crack on, because deep inside, we all want the same thing, to love, to laugh, to commune, innovate and evolve, and to feel good.
Oh, so true. I think about this all the time—how simple our needs really are—and how impossible it is to get them met. When I’m truly perplexed, I look to evolutionary biology for answers.
I couldn't agree more with everything you wrote - and what glee and relief we'll all feel when that glorious day finally comes! I can't WAIT to no longer read about it or its cronies, hear its voice, see its face. SO looking forward to the day when it is just GONE.
But my biggest takeaway...WHERE DO YOU GET THE WORDLE ARCHIVE?! Since the NYTs bought it, I didn't think the archive was available anymore. ;)
A-HA! There's the rub. I usually play Wordle either from my laptop or phone, from the NYT website itself. Now I MUST download the games app. LOL to #4! Certainly down-the-rabbit-hole worthy! Have you ever played it in the morning, completely forgotten the answer, and played it all over again later that day? Asking for a friend.
I LOVE Strands! Don't care for Spelling Bee, and I've friends who play Connections, but meh. Every day on FB, a friend from high school posts both her Wordle and Strands results. Four of us play/comment there every single day (except when life interrupts and I miss a day or four...or a week). Thanks!!!
i am more a cautious optimist than you; too many concerns re electoral college. you know this is not a fait accompli by any means. still recovering from my horrible 2016 victory party; all our attendees remind me too. soooo, attn: stacey readers who want to dump tRUMP....get off your couch. do stuff. please.
Let’s hope so! I too am so fed up with his petulance. He’s always been a blight to humanity, it’s his enablers that I hold responsible for constantly letting him out of his crib to shit on truth, justice, and the American way. It’s a game of Monopoly to Superdouche, and hopefully this time sane Americans will wield enough Kryptonite to vanquish him and his babysitters to a satellite planet farther than earth two, via an exploding Space X rocket. Do not pass go! Do not collect two billion dollars! Go straight to Jail! And then hell! 💩
What a treat to read about how I feel and what I observe from this %#*% so called human, (if he is a human)? Your vocabulary is so vast, I had to google a few words. However, your message is spot on! I don’t talk politics at work, because I don’t want to get into a pissing match with anyone that supports or values his spew of his rediculous comments that only bash people instead of addressing the real issues of running a country.
Thanks for speaking on my behalf and confirming my feelings!

It's a good sign, particularly in Ohio.
Dearest Caroline, I think that is truly significant. It is my earnest belief that we’ve got them on the run.
Rumor has it that RFK, Jr's brain worm is sick and tired of his nonsense, and has announced he is endorsing Kamala Harris and Tim Walz.
In other words, The Worm Has Turned........
"The Worm Has Turned...," nice, lol.
I'd love to see that! I'm still reading RFK is endorsing it...fingers crossed!
It's meant as a joke.
RFK, Jr. is as addled as a rotten egg, and is indeed upholding the Orange Traitor, presumably in a quid pro quo deal to get a job in the Traitor's administration, Heavens Forfend......
Ha! And heaven forbid indeed.

Beautifully said, as always. And, as you say, we think like the same person!!!
It really is as easy a move as you say. It just requires everyone to believe in it and get out to do their part to make sure it happens.
xoxox

TraumaZone Russia is a series you can find on YouTube. You, more than most, will feel is full impact. You’ve never seen anything like it.
If that is one choice and vulture capitalism is another, I’ll take “Caribbean Islands for $200,” Alex.
Will definitely watch...

Your point is taken. We can still put those lawsuits under the broad umbrella of "election fraud" with a huge caveat of "alleged."
I am certain you are enjoying the mic on/mic off debate that's raging re: the debate. This is just delicious.
Yeah, all of the sudden, the Trump camp likes the "mic off" option, even as Jabba says he'd prefer "mic on." I should have added, and the Harris people are all, "Yes. For the love of God ..."
A tour-de-force article, Stacey, that has made my day. Thank you! Kirtland

We are panicked monkeys. Deeper down, a lizard.

I'm so glad you asked. THE WORDLE ARCHIVE IS A CRITICAL DEVELOPMENT. Here's what you do:
1. Download the NYT Games app.
2. Open it.
3. Under the Wordle icon, you will find the archive.
4. Lock your door; unplug your phone. Don't leave the house for at least a week.
P.S. You will also find the new NYT word find game called Strands. Not as good as Wordle or Spelling Bee, but very entertaining.
A-HA! There's the rub. I usually play Wordle either from my laptop or phone, from the NYT website itself. Now I MUST download the games app. LOL to #4! Certainly down-the-rabbit-hole worthy!
