Having grown up in Minnesota, but living in Portland, Oregon, it's been a good, long while since I've seen fireflies. I can remember a few times from my childhood that I thought were pretty magical. Thanks for dredging up those memories!!

I witnessed just two for the first time in steamy Indiana a few weeks ago. Nonetheless it was thrilling, being a tree hugger nature freak. Somehow, time and space stops when nature displays it’s grandeur. There is a sense of alignment and calm, like when you get those tingles of serotonin because the light is hitting you just right and you don’t want to move from fear of losing that natural high.Thrill ride of a story! Loved it!🤗

There is a large back yard here where my trailer is parked. There is a good sized, driving mower in the pole barn that has not been driven since Pat (Toni's husband) died. I'll use the Ryobi (sometimes with the brush cutter assembly) to maintain a few (poorly maintained) paths around the trailer and the back of the house. But otherwise it is all retro Southern Illinois prairie. July -- August is usually our high season for fireflies (though I still see a few these nights.)

I'm a native Californian as well, and never saw any in person until I was 30 and moved to Chicago. Not a lot there, because of the aggressive mowing and poisoning. But down here, on "my" own little 1/8th acre of Nature's own, the little monsters* will sometimes get quite busy.

*(If you've never seen them up close, they are fucking scary looking as all get out.)
