Stunning! I’m in the same boat, id rather trust the locals than be cattle prodded. On our trip to Croatia we rented a boat to sight see on the Dalmatian islands. After our first island (touristy), our captain suggested we skip the next one to go have lunch on a little known island that was owned and run by a wonderful German couple. A house on a hill and their stunning open air restaurant right on the water in a quaint little cove. The ink squid risotto was amazing! The owners treated us like royalty and suggested we take a half mile hike to their private little beach on the other side of the island. Once there, more jaw dropping hues of crystal clear blue water in a tiny cove. Once swimming, in probably a 55 degree ocean, the fish were tickling our feet with a visibility of 60 feet to the bottom. You could see everything! The nine of us were the only one’s visiting their island of magical beauty that day. Memory of a lifetime! So yeah, trust the locals and buy local, always. 😃
I'm surprised that any place with the word "Riviera" in its name is not absolutely crushed by tourists.
Now I'm flashing on some of my 16th C. history. Genoa was such a key hub in Philip II's attempt to quell the Dutch rebellion; the starting point of the "Spanish road."

With the weather about to turn frigid here in Portland, this sounds absolutely dreamy. **Sigh**
