I am a Canadian living in Italy for the past seven years and have been following Måneskin since seeing them on X-factor. They absolutely scream talent and I was head over heals when they won Eurovision. You could see it was a huge upset and the knives came out early with all the speculation about Damino's alleged public coke sniffing at the Finale. I loved it when he turned around and took a drug test and passed. And now it is great to see them so successful internationally. They have worked hard for this and deserve to be where they are.

I never realized that I heard of them before in the background of social media. However, this is the first time I realize their popularity in America. This is a pretty interesting peice. Thanks for sharing.

I still haven't heard any of their stuff. I probably should, but that's for another time. It's interesting to posit your artistic evaluation of Italy against, say, Iceland, where so much new/modern music has sprung from. If Italy can even begin to approach that level of creativity and innovation, they might be on to something.

OK, now that I've listened to some of their stuff -- they're on Spotify -- I'm going to go with a bit more of a Halestorm vibe than RHCP (though it is definitely there -- "Beggin"). This might shift as I hear more.

Just this AM I stumbled across this story in The Atlantic, "Is Old Music Killing New Music?"

https://www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/2022/01/old-music-killing-new-music/621339/

I started listening to the stations that played newer music when I first came here (So. IL) as a grad student, back in 2000; I'd never been much of a radio listener before that. As such, it always astonishes me when I know of a band or an artist that someone else hasn't heard of.

I'll give these guys a listen, but it will be with some bracing I'm afraid: mentioning RHCP just put them on the wrong side of the spectrum of my likes. I'm more Foo Fighters, Halestorm, (and, of course) Springsteen. (I've seen the last two in concert.)
