Could that picture of Musk with Grimes look any more like a Bond villian? Could his behavior be any more like a Bond villian?

And now he's trying to buy Twitter...

Yes, saw that. Just what we don't need, more loud mouth bro stuff tweeted.

“Just because you can, doesn’t mean you should.” Sheesh, I'm all for trying to make the world a better place...if that was what Musk was trying to do. He gives off a pronounced "Dr. Evil" vibe, if Dr. Evil was high much of the time.

What scares me the most about him is that he seems...unstable. And someone that unstable with that much money is scary as Hell. As in, if he doesn't like you, he can just pay to have you and any record of you ever existing obliterated.

And what's up with the name of the kid he had with Grimes??

As always, you feel exactly what I'm talking about. I actually tried to write about the Grimes' kid, but it was so freaking weird, I didn't know how to do it. Grimes and Musk seem so perfectly suited to one another, despite the colossal age difference. Just think if they'd hyphenated their names! Would it be Grimes-Musk? Musk-Grimes?

"What are the chances that Musk’s Chosen Ones will be white, rich, and male?" -- That last in particular would reduce colonial viability to zero. Given the one-way trip aspect, I'm not sure how the rich could be induced or compelled to comply.

That said, as a person with a meaningful background in both science and fiction, I've got to say I am rather sick of stories that premise themselves on "We've fucked up Earth, so let's move elsewhere!" (I am also entirely without patience for "parallel Earth" stories, even though I've used such a cheap trick in one of my own.) There is literally nothing we can do to the Earth -- not even nuclear war -- that would make even the next most habitable spot on the planet even remotely as viable as the damaged Earth. Why colonize another planet when that same tech would allow you to "colonize" the damaged Earth way more effectively? There may be better reasons for such colonies: move damaging industries and extractive practices off world to lifeless rocks that have no ecology to be damaged, for example.

Geniuses with destructive personalities are not new (the subject has come up here before), but (1) I'm not sure Muskrat really qualifies as a genius so much as a psychopath who gets other people to do things he wants done, and (2) as you mention, is he really *creating* anything at all, beyond opportunities to ruthless leverage others? I mean, this guy ain't no Caravaggio ...

I'm no fan of the cat with orange hair but you lost me by throwing around the "r" word. When can we get past calling people names to make a point? This non-rich white male will be very happy when people move beyond calling people racist that they disagree with.

Oh! You mean when I called Trump racist? Is that a position you disagree with? Because I am genuinely open to hearing a well-documented and well-supportive argument that Trump is anything but a racist.

Well, since you lobbed the "r" word maybe it is you that should give the examples that support your accusation. What I do know is he was never considered racist while receiving accolades from the NAACP before he turned Republican. He also had blacks and Latinos in his circle. If he did anything remotely racist, as rigidiously as he was pursued, would it not be common knowledge? If enforcing immigration laws is racist, then every president but the current one deserves that title. I do not like the "r" word casually thrown around because when it is deserved, it has little impact.

I’d be very surprised if you are sincerely interested in taking a closer look at a man you clearly support. And I am firmly of the opinion that it is a waste of time trying to explain something to a person who doesn’t want to understand. But again, if you want to convince me that Donald Trump isn’t a racist--and you can support it--knock yourself out.

You give me some solid examples of his racism. I have a very open mind. As for you, you are talented writer. You needn't had gone there. Had you called him a pain in ass sexist pig, we wouldn't be having this exchange.

I don't support him. I wish he would just go away. But I don't like seeing a person called a vile name when he likely is not that thing. You're the one that called him a racist, the burden of proof is on the prosecution.
