Living in Michigan and having so much on the line, I forced myself to go to bed without looking at anything. Woke up numerous times, but still refused to look until it was truly morning. The relief that I now know my granddaughter will continue to have the rights I have had my whole life, I cannot explain that feeling. Our Governor, Secretary of State, and Atty General stayed the same three incredibly strong women. My county has been turning from blue to red over the last 10 years and my congressional district, unfortunately, was won by Trump-backed John James. But barely. District 10 encompasses parts of Detroit and it will come as no surprise this man has people hood-winked. He grew up in Detroit, but he grew up in the very rich part of Detroit. He lost 2 previous runs at the Senate and (of course) refused to concede in 2020. He is definitely the rotten apple in my otherwise wonderful election results. Oh, and the Dems have taken charge of our state legislature for the first time since I was in grade school in the early 80s! I want to mention that MI had a redistricting committee that was bipartisan and not full of politicians. This happened since the 2020 election and the 2022 results show how things can be when the lines are more fairly drawn. Texas and other red states are only red because of their unfair gerrymandering. Michigan wouldn't have had the same results if we had to stick with our terrible districts of the past.

BTW, trying to imagine you not having a preference in working for either party gave me a shocked giggle. We live and learn.

LOL! There was no limit to the stupid I was as a teenage girl. My heart was in the right place. I just didn't know anything. Some days, I still don't think I know anything.

That's some good news you shared, though. Really good news.

In a perfect world, we wouldn't have gerrymandering on either side of the aisle. But since when has it ever been a perfect world?

"Progress is being made; it’s just messy, slow, and annoying, a dial-up connection when we want fiber optic." No, when we NEED fiber optic. What this country needs is a "You must be THIS intelligent to vote" standard. Too many stupid (read: MAGA) Americans are allowed to vote because #AMERICA. If people are getting their news and information only from Fox News, they have no business voting.

Mind you, I have no idea how to enforce any of this, but I'm sick and tired of stupid people setting the agenda.

I rarely stayed awake for high school American history (soooooo white and sooooo tedious), but I seem to recall some of those pesky post-war Reconstructionists trying to make Black voters take impossibly difficult "literacy tests" in order to vote.

That didn't end well.

I tried taking one of the Louisiana tests not long ago. I failed it, so I can only imagine the success rate for poor sharecroppers. Those tests weren’t designed to be passed.

McCarthy as speaker of the house? 🤮 How about a satirical cartoon where Pelosi is smashing his kneecaps with the gavel, and he’s in his underwear? “Who’s your daddy”! Aah yes, the peaceful transition of power. Too soon? 😜

And now McCarthy is getting pushback FROM HIS OWN PARTY.

Someday we should swap earthquake stories. The '99 Oaxaca quake while I was in Mexico City is kind of funny.

I expect both parties are going to treat GA as an "all hands on deck" priority. But having seen their red wave turn into nothing more than a red whimper, I suspect the energy may not be there for a candidate whose only qualifications are that he is obedient and stupid. The Dems, on the other hand, have seen what they can do. Anyway, here's hoping.

Raphael Warnock's karma appears to be: squeaker finishes, the eyes of the nation, and then he emerges triumphant. Let's hope that holds.

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA! You are so so right. I fixed it, thanks to you.

Ha! Yes I noticed that, too and glad he is Senator-elect and that Josh Shapiro, another good Democrat, is now governor-elect of the great commonwealth of PA. I teared up at Fetterman's talk with his campaign volunteers—he was incredibly sweet and humble. So thrilled he won!

I did, too! Love that man. And never ever hesitate for one second to reach out if you see an error. There is no ego in this for me. I am of service to you and the publication, not to saving face. There's no face to save :-)

I hope you get some sleep now. I breathed a slight sigh of relief. Maybe I won't have to move away from the USA soon.

We are SUCH a problematic bunch, aren't we? But...America is our land. It's our legacy. And yes, it's also our cross to bear at times.
