Cappuccino is Taking a Festive Holiday
Where it plans to demonstrate how fungus really IS The Third Kingdom
According to Wikipedia, the three most important groups of fungi are molds, yeasts, and mushrooms.
This holiday season, I’m shooting for all three.
First, I plan on sitting in one place long enough, at least mentally, to grow mold; second, since yeasts are a single-cell fungi that are especially abundant on or in sugary mediums, I plan to consume every sugary medium I can find, particularly those offered to me in a Christmas stocking; third, like a mushroom, or indeed any umbrella-shaped sporophore, I have every intention of hiding in a dark place until I have to come out again.
I have no ambitions to become a funguslike organism, mind you, such as a slime mold or an oomycete (water mold). Nor am I a rust, a mildew, or a smut. No, I said smut. As in multicellular fungi characterized by a large numbers of teliospores. There’s a quiz later, so pay attention.
And yet, despite these lofty resolutions, what will happen is this. Without the structure, community, and purpose of Cappuccino, I’ll disintegrate. Knowing that I need to occasionally power down the mental machinery is never enough to make taking a break as enjoyable as I think it will be. Are you like that, too? Do you go on vacation and then find yourself at a complete loss as to what to do?
Yet, once again, I will try. I will try to catch up on the things I never seem to have time for when I’m working and/or meeting Cappuccino’s publishing deadlines.
Theoretically, I could even leave the house. I know, right? Crazy.
And when Cappuccino returns on Monday, January 2, 2023, I will be rested, refreshed, and ready to take on the world, even if I do come back looking like this:
From our house to yours, Cappuccino wishes you a lovely holiday!
It has been a pleasure to read your stuff these last few months. I can see why you need to kick-back and recharge. So, enjoy and let a little pride seep into your reflections, and for that matter, into whatever is gestating within the many folds of your very good mind. Buona festa!
Happy Festivus!! 😝😝
