The day after Easter is a civil holiday in Italy, and a charming one at that. According to the sacred scriptures, it is the day when the Angel of the Lord announced the Resurrection of Jesus. This is celebrated with family outings and a variety of roasted meats, much of it lamb.
As a secular humanist, I have my own thoughts on these matters, but the great thing, (and sometimes the less great thing) about Italy is that she never changes her traditions. Ever. Even Italians who never go to church the rest of the year go to church on Easter. Also Christmas. Ergo the term “C&E Catholics.” (Christmas and Easter).
One other thing that needs to be empty today is my brain, which is why Cappuccino is taking a much-needed day off and will resume normal operations tomorrow. Tomorrow also happens to be the ONE YEAR ANNIVERSARY of the publication, and I hope you will help me celebrate. More on that later.
Until then, a big shout out to you sippers of frothy Cappuccini.
You always, ALWAYS have my love.
Do you know anyone who’d like a free subscription to Cappuccino? If so, you can send it as a gift or invite them to download the app. Enjoy!
Enjoy your day off!
Hi Stacey - buona pasquetta to you, too! I am in Spello and the Italians were out in throngs!
